Tough Discipline

A 6-year-old boy form Canton, Ohio was suspended from school for sexual harassment. School principal Julie Behner chose a three-day suspension for the boy. In addition, Behner forced the boy to sign a paper acknowledging that the boy understands charges against him. The boy had jumped naked out of the bathtub waving frantically at a schoolbus as it began to leave his home. The boy was attempting to prevent the bus from leaving because of an impending field trip that day. The riders and the driver were both aware the boy was unclothed. The child's mother protested the school’s reaction and the initial responses was a call from David Behner, the principal’s husband and assistant school superintendent, who supported his wife’s decision. However, another assistant superintendent, Greg Backus, reversed the decision after the Canton Repository posted a story on the incident. (Canton Repository, Lori Monsewicz, May 11, 2000)
